Tasty Morsels

I've been so busy everyday getting ready to leave next Friday (only 1 week away), that I'd thought I'd capture some quick stories in one post.
So here are some quick observations from the last week.

*Zo Peep came home from school on Wednesday full of exciting stories of her classmates’ holidays.

“Guess what Kaley got for Christmas?”

“What, babe.”

“A Llama Lamp.”

“Do you mean Lava Lamp? When I was a kid, lots of people had Lava Lamps”

“No. She got a Llama Lamp.”

I’m hoping for a play date at Kaley’s soon. I can’t wait to see her Llama Lamp.

*Little Zo Peep loved her Advent Calendar so much (thank you Aunt Mary Ellen) that I’m stealing the idea to help her mark the time that I’m in China.

I will be gone for 14 days. So I’m creating a 14 day treasure hunt that Zo Peep can participate in each day. I’m creating a board with 14 pockets. In each pocket there will be clue (in rhyme) to that day’s “treasure.” Some treasures will be big, some small, but all will include a handwritten note telling her how much I love her. My sister and babysitter will have the precise location of each treasure to help Zo Peep find it if she’s having trouble.

Here are the first 2 treasure hunt clues:

Today’s the day I’m off to China
I left some treasures for you to find – a
One for each day, 14 in all
The first can be found near the big blue ball.

Your second treasure is very neat
It can be found around a seat
In a room where you eat
Close to where you put your feet

OK, so I’ll never be a Poet Laureate – but I bet my 5 yr old will think it rivals T.S. Eliot.

*Every snowy morning this week, Little Zo Peep has gotten dressed quickly so that she could play outside a little bit before we leave for school.

On Thursday, I came out to the back patio to see that see had shoveled and swept all the snow from the patio and from the steps leading up to the Garage.

What a big helper I have.

*I really want to film great video during my trip to China.

I knew from the movies I’ve shot in the last month that I continue to have some problems with inadequate lighting and with capturing proper sound.

I spent hours searching for supplemental lights and microphones to get for my video camera and discovered that– even though the camera is only 3 years old – it is totally obsolete and I can’t purchase any of these accessories anywhere, anymore.

So I did the unthinkable. I bought a whole new camera with an extra light and the extra microphone. This way I’ll have everything I need to get good footage on the trip.

I hate planned obsolescence.

This weekend will be filled with packing and planning and packing. It’s my last weekend before my travels next week. WHEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

What a great idea to do the treasure hunt countdown. Good luck with packing! I am happy that you will be filming and hopefully sharing your family/metcha/gotcha moments.
