I got up early feeling great and raring to go today. My cold has all but disappeared and the silver lining to my 10 days of sickness is that I may have broken my caffeine addiction during that time (I hate the taste of coffee when I’m sick). My goal is to stay off the stuff as long as I can and make water my beverage of choice. So net, net – my mind was clear, sharp and ready to take on anything this morning.
So about the snow. Sure we had some snow accumulation from last night and some flakes were wafting down from the pre-dawn sky this morning – but nothing that I would call scary. In fact I made a few trips out to the garage when Zo Peep was still asleep – and both times I wore sandals and no socks – Sandals for gosh sake! This was not a deep or treacherous snowstorm.
Little Zo Peep was thrilled to see the snow when she awoke. Snowy days mean that my

Now my caffeine-free, uber-mind combined with Zo Peep’s accelerated morning preparations meant that we were actually EARLY this morning. By the time we left the house we were comfortably 10 minutes earlier than usual. What joy!!!
And then we got to school. And found out they were not opening until 10AM due to a Snow Delay. WHAT!!!!
The ONE Day I’m ahead of schedule and the school is not even OPEN. No one was there to congratulate me on my punctuality.
Now here’s my confession -- I had not even THOUGHT of checking for school closings of delays this morning -- Never even crossed my mind. Didn’t seem like enough snow to warrant any delay.
Well, I’m the mom of a school age child now and School delays and closures are a fact of life from now on. Real mommies probably check for closures and delays at the hint of a snowflake.
Clearly I need to recalibrate my “snow sense” and double check anytime I think that there is even a chance of a delay. I feel like I’ve just learned a new lesson in my never ending pursuit of a degree in Mommy-hood.

Wow... in Utah you would have to have at least 12 inches of the stuff when you wake up to have a snow day! Man how I wished for snowdays as a kiddo....I guess this mommie-hood is an never ending learning thing.
