Stocking Stuffers

We’ve already opened the Santa Gifts, emptied the stockings, ate some sweets and exchanged our personal gifts. Here are some tidbits from the last few days:

***Zo Peep is carrying around her pink guitar wherever she goes (she even took it to the bathroom). Yes, Santa did give deliver a shining pink electric guitar, but did not include an amplifier (God, bless that jolly old elf). So Zo Peep’s strumming is mercifully quiet. She’s already composed her first rock song:

“Where oh where have the present gone?
Oh where oh where can they be?"

***Last week when we were putting lights on the trees, Zo Peep walked in front of me around the tree unwrapping the string of lights as she went. My job was to place them on the tree. Suddenly she said, “Now I understand that Christmas song.”

“What Christmas Song, babe?”

“Walking around the Christmas Tree.”

She is her Mother’s daughter. When I was a kid, I thought that the classic Credence Clearwater Revival line “There’s a Bad Moon on the Rise” was actually “There’s a Bathroom on the Right.” I was in college before I discovered my mistake.

***On Sunday, Zo Peep and I went to a movie matinee. As we emerged from the theatre just as the sun was setting, she asked:

“When does Santa actually come to our house?”

“Not until everyone is asleep.”

“Well, mommy I think we should get in our pajamas and go to bed a soon as it’s night time.”

At this time of year, the sun goes down at about 5:15PM. For a moment I imagined crawling into bed at 5:30 on Christmas Eve.

Didn’t sound half bad.

***Zo Peep’s school sponsored a gift store where I put money into her account and she could purchase gifts for key family members. She bought gifts for me, Libby Doodle Doo and her nanny weeks ago. She has kept her gift selections secret from us. She even hid them in the house so that we would not be tempted to peek at them.

I opened the gift she had personally selected for me. It was a sparkly “amethyst” bracelet, matching post earrings and a pink rhinestone clock for my desk at work. The gifts glittered and sparkled. But their glimmer was outshone by the dazzle in her face and the twinkle in my heart.

This was the highlight of my Christmas morning.

I hope you all enjoy this special day.

Ms Zoey Peep sounds like such a cutie... Such thoughtful gifts! Totally understand the walking around the Christmas tree misunderstanding. Makes sense to me.

I had a roomate in college who thought the simon and garfunkel some are you going to scarborough fair. parsley, sage.... was "are you going to starve an old man, parsley, sage..." I was the one who had to clue her in as she was singing the wrong words. Too funny!
