I, therefore, want to make weekends as relaxing and rejuvenating as possible for myself and for the girls. I’ve had a long-established rule with Little Zo Peep that she can stay in PJ’s on the weekends for as long as possible (on weekdays she needs to change into school clothes as soon as she hops out of bed and brushes her teeth). I wanted to add other special weekend rituals that we all can look forward to at the end of each crazy week.
I’ve thought about things I could do to make weekends especially festive – and decided on Saturday morning breakfasts. So instead of the usual cold or warm cereal that they get during the week, I want the girls to experience an old fashioned BIG breakfast every Saturday morning. My dad always made a big breakfast for all of us on Sunday morning after church. I liked that idea, but thought that Saturday morning would work out a little better for us.
Last Saturday I made Mickey Mouse pancakes (pancakes with 2 ears), link sausage and juice. Today we had bacon, home fries with onions and garlic, and scrambled eggs.
It was a nice morning. Zo Peep wanted me to pretend that I was a waitress so I got a little notepad and took her order. She also gave an order for her baby (Libby Doodle Doo) and requested that I cut up the baby’s food so she could eat it without choking. Zo Peep also ordered coffee and then in a whisper told me that she didn’t really want coffee, but would like some Chai (decaf) instead.
As requested, I cut up the baby’s potatoes and fed the scrambled eggs to the Doodle via spoon. She wolfed everything down. Miss Zo Peep finished her breakfast too and then went downstairs to catch some cartoons before we needed to get ready for her Chinese class.
A very pleasant way to start the weekend.
So for next week should the Blue Plate Special be waffles or French toast????

Love Your Blog - I came across it in China Adoptions. I check it frequently to see what Mama Hen & her Chicks are up to.
I always did Saturday breakfasts with my son - at home or out - he is 25 and still likes to carry on the tradition.
I'm a big fan of French toast myself! Our weekend ritual usually entails not getting dressed until you absolutely have to on Saturdays. And on Sundays we go to 9:30 Mass and 11:00 religious education. And then try to have the afternoon for quiet time. I think your girls are going so appreciate the memories that you are making for them! I have a 20 year old and he still talks about how he just loves to be at home with no schedule on the weekend. He's off in college and a very busy young adult, but he will always remember home with family time= very important!
As for your evening "bathtime", I have never had a flood from bathtime, but get plenty of water on the floor at our house!! Oh, the joys of parenting and setting the punishments after the crime! That's why they say it's the toughest job you'll ever love! I'm always so amazed with how you manage to pull your days together and blog too!! I hope to put a blog together soon. I need my 20 year old to show me how to set one up. I'm sure they are very therapeutic!
I usually make a big breakfast on Saturdays too - the weekdays are so busy, getting out the door! My girls are fans of what they call "mouse-cakes" too. ;)
What a great tradition. I really appreciate the well thought out plans you have for building traditions with your family. It is a great example to me and I am sure for others, especially single mommas who read your blog.
