Giving Thanks

I have numerous blessing that I am thankful for each and every day. In honor of Thanksgiving, let me put them here for all to see:

1. I am thankful for the way my parents raised me. In spite of little money and even less free time, they raised 6 children to be strong, fair, loving, and productive. If I do half the job with Little Zo Peep and Libby Doodle Doo, I'll consider myself a successful parent.

2. I am thankful for the family and friends who surround me. They provide wise counsel when I'm lost, a shoulder to cry on when I'm distraught and a kick in the pants when I need it.

3. I am thankful to the many people who help me care for my children, run my household, perform my job and make me look like I'm much more put together than I really am.

4. I am thankful for many people in China who I will probably never meet. First, the birth parents of my girls who created these amazing human beings and who arranged to have those girls be found quickly so that they would be safe and secure. Second to all the officials in China who allowed me to be selected to be their mother -- an awesome and humbling responsibility. Finally, to the many nannies, doctors, nurses and others who cared for my girls so that they came to me healthy and knowing how to love.

5. Finally -- and most importantly -- I am thankful for my girls -- Little Zo Peep and Libby Doodle Doo. Libby Doodle Doo, I have not yet met you, but the documentation provided about you shows me that you will mesh beautifully with our family while bringing your own unique spirit to enrich us. Little Zo Peep you have helped me so much to become a better person while I become a better mother. You have brought light and focus and indescribable joy to my life.

We hope everyone has a lovely Thanksgiving holiday filled with friends, family and happiness.
Mama Hen, Little Zo Peep, and (still in China) Libby Doodle Doo
